The Setting:

It is the Roaring Twenties; The Jazz Age.  An era characterized by economic prosperity, social and political turbulence, and new forms of art and music.  Flappers are flaunting their disdain for the notions of decent behavior by wearing makeup, drinking hard liquor, smoking tobacco, and participating in brash, risqué behavior.  Prohibition laws have given rise to organized crime as well as back alley speakeasies which serve bootleg liquor to those who know where to look.  Tonight it is Goons, Girls, and Gambling night at Plunkett’s; a regular legitimate restaurant in the North Side of Chicago by day; but by night, a speakeasy where the most sordid and seedy characters gather to drink, mingle and otherwise engage in impetuous behavior.  Consider everyone a suspect and ask your questions thoroughly.  The criminal will be implicated in three ways: A Motive, Weapon, and Opportunity.  Many players will have two of these things but only one of them will have all three. For the best results concentrate your questions in these three areas. Everyone must tell the truth except for the criminal. He or she is the only person who can lie.

The Crime:

Just as the clock passed midnight everyone was getting cozy with their beverages. You heard the familiar rapid rattling of what sounded like a submachine gun.  Everyone scrambled into the back alley, assuming it was a police raid or a mafia massacre.  When the commotion died down Doris Plunkett, the speakeasy owner, checked the rotgut room where the bootleg liquor was hidden and stored, she found a dead body that was riddled with bullets.  The body was of Ed Malone, Chicago’s most ruthless and notorious gangster – the big cheese. One of you is the murderer and the rest of you need to find out who it was.  When you have found someone with a motive, a gun, and was in the rotgut room tonight, then you may have found the true murderer. GOOD LUCK!!!
